Occupancy And Use

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), for the protection of public safety and to increase the enjoyment of public recreation, the following is prohibited on the area described in this order, and shown on attached map (Exhibit A), within the Mendocino National Forest, Upper Lake Ranger District:

  1. It is prohibited to possess any beverage which is defined as an alcoholic beverage by State law in any KEG type container or commercial DRAFT DISPENSER in the Lake Pillsbury Basin Recreation Area. 36 CFR 261.58(bb).
  2. Possessing a beverage which is defined as an alocholic beverage by State law in violation of the California Vehicle Code Section 23223 (Possession of opened container in a motor vehicle). 36 CFR 261.58(bb).

This order affects the portion of the Upper Lake Ranger District known as the Pillsbury Recreation Area. It includes all relatively flat public lands adjacent to Pillsbury Lake. The boundary runs generally North from Scott Dam along Road 20N01 to Coyote Rock then in an easterly direction along the southern base of Boardman Ridge to Big Squaw Valley, then southwest to U.S. Forest Summer Home Tract, then southeast to Thistle Glade, then westerly to Rice Fork Summer Homes, then southwest to Split Rock, then northeast to the original starting point at Scott Dam (see Exhibit A).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:

  1. Persons with a permit authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Any Federal, State or Local Law enforcement Officer in the performance of an official duty.

This prohibition is in addition to other closure orders applicable to this area and to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more that $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
