The Group leads or performs the following functions:
- Strategically plans and manages the nation’s ambient air monitoring networks to ensure
they will continually meet critical air program assessment needs by leading and collaborating
on development of data quality objectives (DQOs), methods, a quality assurance program to assess
achievement of DQOs and network designs for the measurement of criteria pollutants, precursor gases,
and air toxics;
- Utilizes best-fit approaches that optimize the value of the monitoring to meet multiple program
objectives in order to implement the nation’s ambient air monitoring networks in collaboration with
other key stakeholders, including EPA Headquarters and Regional Offices, other Federal agencies,
State/local/Tribal agencies and Multi-State Organizations, the National Academy of Sciences, the
Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee, and private entities; and
- Assesses and supports the Nation’s ambient air monitoring networks to assure their
effectiveness in meeting program objectives;
