These success stories point out how we use indicators to measure our progress.
Chesapeake Bay Progress Report 
- the Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the U.S., includes parts of Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia and all of the District of Columbia
Combined Sewer Overflows - systems designed to collect rainwater runoff, domestic sewage, and industrial wastewater all in the same pipe
Drinking Water - public drinking water systems
Estuaries Program Coastal Conditions Report - looks at data collected by EPA and numerous stakeholders in the 28 estuaries in the National Estuary Program
Nonpoint Source Pollution - polluted runoff, comes from diffuse or scattered sources in the environment rather than from a defined outlet such as a pipe
Pretreatment - treating wastewater before it is discharged off-site
Schuylkill Action Network - Measures to Track Progress - people and organizations working together to improve the water resources of the Schuylkill River watershed in Pennsylvania
Septic Systems for Small Communities - treating wastewater on-site or as part of a small cluster system
Stormwater - runoff from land and impervious areas such as streets, parking lots, and roofs during rain and snow events; regulated under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program
Sustainable Infrastructure - drinking water supply and wastewater systems
Underground Injection - the placement of fluids into the ground, often in wells
