Park Planning and Projects

The Division of Planning is responsible for preparing, updating and implementing plans and Park projects such as:

  • Management Plans
  • Trail Plans & Design
  • Restoration Plans
  • Land Use Planning
  • Transportation, Buildings, and Infrastructure Projects

Park planners specialize in project management and design, review other agency projects and neighboring development plans, and manage compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other laws and regulations.  Planning staff are also responsible for preparing environmental documents such as  categorical exclusions, environmental assessments (EA), and environmental impact statements (EIS).

This site is dedicated to providing the public with more information on planning activities and projects within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) and how to stay involved in the planning process.

In 2005, the NPS launched another website—the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) system—that also provides information on current projects.  Links to PEPC are located throughout this planning site.

Fort Baker hospital building

Did You Know?
During the early 20th century, the army relied on standardized architectural plans to construct different types of buildings. That is why Fort Baker Building 533 and the Fort Mason GGNRA headquarters’ building look so similar: they were both constructed in 1902 as hospitals.
