GROUND WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 78.05

Subject: GROUND WATER - Status of Quantitative Ground-Water
                            Hydrology

John D. Bredehoeft has provided a small supply of his keynote
address at the 1976 AWRA Symposium on Advances in Groundwater
Hydrology, a copy of which is enclosed for routing among your
interested staff members.

Entitled "Status of Quantitative Groundwater Hydrology", the paper
is an excellent abbreviated statement on (1) present capabilities
and recent advances in quantitative simulation of hydraulic and
geochemical ground-water systems, (2) the need for more-realistic
descriptions of physical and geochemical characteristics of
ground-water systems in order to take fuller advantage of
expanding modeling capabilities, and (3) increasing usage of
ground-water quantitative methodologies in the solution of
engineering, economic, and management problems.

A few extra copies are available upon request.
