Position Title: Field and Program Development Coordinator

Division: Women's Health Sciences Division

Location: Boston, MA

Descriptor: Project Coordinator (full-time)

Length of position: Permanent

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

Position Description: The Field and Program Development Coordinator will primarily be responsible for serving as a frontline contact person for VA clinicians and other staff about information and materials related to Military Sexual Trauma (MST). Part of this role will involve monitoring current practices and programming in the field, assisting facilities in program modification, conducting needs assessments of the field, and increasing opportunities for networking and communication between clinicians. He or she will also assist the team in increasing VA’s capacity nationwide for providing specialized MST-related care. Administrative responsibilities for the team more generally, including budgeting and managing production and national dissemination of education and outreach materials, are also a component of the position.

Requirements:
Master’s degree in mental health, public health, public policy or a related field.

Position Title: Male Veterans Coordinator

Division: Women's Health Sciences Division

Location: Boston, MA

Descriptor: Project Coordinator (full-time)

Length of position: Permanent

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

Position Description: While some view sexual trauma as only a women’s issue, the disproportionate ratio of men to women in the military results in roughly equal numbers of men and women being seen in VA for issues related to Military Sexual Trauma (MST). The Male Veterans Coordinator will be tasked with increasing awareness of the issues faced by male MST survivors and developing resources and educational materials for clinicians specific to the identification, assessment, and treatment of male MST survivors. He or she will also be responsible for developing outreach and psychoeducational materials for veterans about these issues and for serving as a source of consultation to the field.

Requirements:
PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited institution; knowledge of the nature and treatment of trauma-related mental health disorders and the unique issues faced by male survivors and clinicians working with them; demonstrated experience in psychological assessment and measurement. Demonstration of an interest in the development and dissemination of educational materials is an additional asset.

Position Title: Project Coordinator, CPT Implementation Program

Division: Women’s Health Sciences Division; CPT Implementation Program

Location: Boston, MA

Descriptor: Project Coordinator (full-time)

Position Description:
Job responsibilities of the Project Coordinator for the Cognitive Processing Therapy Implementation Program will include: maintaining records and preparing administrative and budget reports for the Office of Mental Health Services, VA Central Office; preparing contracts in collaboration with independent contractors and organizations, as well as working with the VA Contracting Office; planning and coordinating national CPT training workshops and conferences; disseminating information about CPT to VA providers and trainees from around the country to promote evidence-based treatment for PTSD; communicating and networking with VA staff (e.g., Mental Health Leaders) regarding the CPT Implementation Program and evidence-based treatment; developing materials for the practice, dissemination, and implementation of CPT.

Requirements:
Master’s degree in mental health, public health, public policy, or a related field. Some education and/or experience in financial/business management are strongly preferred. Other qualifications include strong computer and organizational skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal skills.

Position Title: Project Coordinator, Pathways of Risk and Resilience in Firefighter Recruits

Division: Behavioral Science Division

Location: Boston, MA

Position Description:
Job responsibilities will include: traveling to fire departments in NY, Virginia, Chicago, Providence, and Toronto for recruitment and assessment, conducting structured clinical interviews for PTSD and substance use disorders, supervising research assistants, serving as a liaison with outside service providers (e.g., survey research group, phlebotomy service provider), managing and analyzing data, developing and writing manuscripts.
Time may be negotiated to allow for clinical hours and supervision to prepare post-docs for licensure.

Requirements:
Doctoral degree in clinical psychology; experience with structured clinical interviewing, willingness to travel.

Position Title:  Staff Research Psychologist

Division: Behavioral Science Division

Location: Boston, MA

Position Description: The National Center is a multi-site consortium within the Department of Veteran Affairs. The Behavioral Science Division is nationally recognized for developing model research and clinical programs in stress and trauma. The Division has outstanding resources for research, training, and clinical activities. Exceptional opportunities for collaboration exist locally, across the National Center divisions, and with professionals in military and DoD settings. Division staff supervise postdoctoral fellows participating in an NIMH-sponsored research training program and predoctoral psychology interns who are enrolled in an APA-accredited training program. A major focus of National Center research is trauma-related conditions in military veterans, but candidates who work in related areas or with other trauma-exposed populations are encouraged to apply. Applicants with expertise in aging, substance use disorders, and brain injury are of particular interest. Faculty appointment at the Boston University School of Medicine is anticipated.

Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Psychology with demonstrated skills in research, publication, and grant writing are required. Clinical psychologists must have training and clinical internship from APA-accredited programs and either existing licensure in the U.S. or eligibility for professional licensure in Massachusetts.

Position Title: Clinical Psychologist

Division: National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Pacific Islands Division

Location: Honolulu, HI

Position Description:
VA Research and Education Corporation of the Pacific (VARECP), a nonprofit foundation affiliated with the Veterans Affairs Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS), is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to work at the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Pacific Islands Division in Honolulu, Hawaii. This position is part of a 4-year Department of Defense funded clinical trial. The immediate objective of this project is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of video-teleconferencing (VTC) for providing an evidence-based group intervention to rural veterans suffering with PTSD. Salary is competitive and based on credentials and experience. The position is full-time with excellent benefits (medical, dental, vision), paid leave, and a generous 401(k) plan. Position is based in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii with the opportunity to travel to Maui and other Hawaiian Islands. The position is approximately 40% clinical and 60% research with diverse professional opportunities and the ability to pursue related independent research after year one on the project. The psychologist will receive training from and be working closely with National Center for PTSD researchers and other leaders in the field. Requirements:

  • The minimum requirements for both positions are:
  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program
  • Completion of a Predoctoral Internship from an APA accredited program
  • Experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapies
  • Experience conducting PTSD therapy and Group Therapy
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent research skills

It is highly desirable that candidates have:

  • Experience working with Combat Veterans or other military populations
  • Prior experience working in a VA, military, or other governmental setting
  • Experience working on rigorous, highly controlled research projects
  • Publications in Peer Reviewed Journals
  • Interest in Rural Health and/or Asian and Pacific Islander populations
