Primary Topic: Materials-General Description: The experimental design for this project was developed in 1997 by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). It involves the construction of an experimental stretch of pavement, which will provide data for the evaluation of the performance of various joint seals and joint configurations. Unsealed control sections are also included. In constructing the test sections, the following objectives were established: (a) To assess the effectiveness of a variety of joint sealing practices employed after the initial sawing of joints, and to examine their repercussions in terms of reduced construction time and life cycle costs; (b) To identify those materials and procedures that are most cost effective; and (c) To determine the effect of joint sealing techniques on pavement performance. Final Report available as FHWA-OH-2002-019.
