The Division of Research and Statistics
Financial Studies

The Financial Studies section conducts policy analysis and theoretical and applied economic research on issues pertaining to financial stability. This includes analysis and research on (i) the features of the financial system that generate imbalances that in turn induce financial instability, (ii) the features of the financial system that allow imbalances to become systemic, (iii) the transmission channels between the real and financial sectors of the macroeconomy and (iv) large, systemically important financial institutions that have an outsized influence on aggregate financial stability. This work supports the Board's analysis of the economy, its monetary policy decision-making, and its supervisory and regulatory activities.
