Environmental Asssessment
July 2002
- - -

In July 2002 the National Park Service (NPS) prepared an Environmental Assessment Desert View Improvements and Road Rehabilitation. The National Park Service (NPS) proposed to redevelop Desert View into a transportation hub on the East Rim with orientation and transit facilities. Proposed activities would occur at the Desert View area, and along Desert View Drive and the south entrance road within Grand Canyon National Park. These proposed activities were part of a comprehensive effort to accommodate present and anticipated future visitation at Desert View. The EA analyzed three alternatives; a No Action Alternative and two action alternatives - Alternative B, the GMP Alternative and Alternative C, the Proposed Action. The proposed action was designed as a refinement of the plans outlined in the GMP. Public Comment period for the EA ended 27 August 2002.

- - -

In December 8, 2000 the National Park Service sent out a Scoping Letter seeking comments on the proposed kitchen expansion at Grand Canyon School. The purpose of the scoping letter was to describe the initial proposed action for the project and to solicit comments from those who might have had issues or concerns regarding the proposal before the environmental analysis for the project was begun. Public comment for the Scoping Letter ended January 31, 2001.
