Our research into the economics of forest disturbances is made up a variety
of studies into the economics of wildfires, both in the Southern and the
Western United States. The economics of invasive
species is also a current research priority that falls into this area.
Both issues build on a longer history
of research by this Unit into issues of forest disturbances and health, including
abiotic
agents of stress such as hurricanes, air pollution and climate
change, and biotic stressors such as southern pine beetle and fusiform rust.
The work also complements other research by the Unit into timber markets,
non-market valuation, and landscape-scale processes such as forest fragmentation
and land use change.
