Field Work Photo FERA's research mission is to inform management of natural resources through research and development in fuels and combustion science, fire and landscape ecology, and integration of the physical and ecological sciences.

Fuel Characteristic Classification System (FCCS)

The Fuel Characteristic Classification System (FCCS) is available for downloading and use on personal computers to calculate fuel characteristics and fire potential in fuelbeds.

The FCCS is being demonstrated on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests and work continues to integrate it with LANDFIRE.

Software and Electronic Databases

FIREHouse, the Northwest and Alaska Fire Research Clearinghouse provides information about fire science and technology. It provides access to the results of fire research efforts

The natural fuels photo series will soon be available in an electronic version. A "beta" version can be viewed now.

Consume 3.0 uses fuel characteristics, lighting patterns, fuel conditions, and meteorological attributes to calculate fuel consumption and emissions by combustion phase.
