Online Interactive Maps (DRAFT)

screen shot of ims tool software
Example online map.

NOAA has developed online, interactive maps to assist natural resource managers and the public in accessing and analyzing relevant geographic data. These maps contain selected data from our full Watershed Database and Mapping Projects.

By using web technology, we are able to bring these geospatial data to anyone with access to an Internet browser. There is no need to run specific GIS software or download data; the project and data layers are already constructed and available for immediate viewing and analysis.

System Requirements

These projects have been tested on several platforms and browsers. The following is a list of what we find works best.

Current and Draft Online Interactive Maps

These links will take you to both completed online interactive maps and works in progress. The draft maps allow our partners to review project data without having to load an entire GIS project or worry about subsequent draft versions.
  • San Francisco Bay Subtidal Habitat Mapping Project To better manage and restore San Francisco Bay subtidal habitats, NOAA's National Ocean Service and National Marine Fisheries Service collected and analyzed data on the quantity and quality of existing subtidal habitats in a partnership project, "Management and Restoration of Sub-tidal Habitat: Decision-making Tools and Habitat Mapping." [leaves OR&R site]
  • San Francisco Bay Project Impact Evaluation System This project provides data used by NOAA to other agencies working on coastal resource projects in the Bay. The available map layers alone cannot provide a solution to many complex environmental issues. However these layers can streamline permit reviews by providing basic visual information on planning port maintenance or development for ports with complex dredging and construction issues. [leaves OR&R site]
  • Anacostia River Watershed This  project focuses on restoration projects and contamination within the watershed. It also highlights related spatial information collected by local, state, and federal agencies plus local interest groups. [leaves OR&R site]
