Environmental Statistics

The Mission of the Forest Service Statistical Function is providing high quality and timely statistical services to Forest Service research scientists and professionals for enhancing the quality and credibility of research  and development results.

Our primary activities include:
 

  • Statistical consulting
Working with people needing statistical assistance to solve their problems.
  • Statistical analysis
Drawing conclusions from data in the presence of uncertainty.
  • Statistical review
Assessment of proposed and performed statistical methods throughout the research process.
  • Consulting on quality assurance
A process to produce research data and results with known precision, completeness, representativeness, comparability, and, where appropriate, accuracy.
  • Collaborative research
Participating on research teams and developing solutions to statistical problems integral to the research.
  • Statistical computing
Providing high quality, corporate statistical computing tools and associated technical support.
Forest Service Research and Development engages in a very broad portfolio of complex programs to serve the many different information and technology needs of our clientele, which requires a statistical function of commensurate breadth and complexity.

Environmental Statistics, with its primarly location at the Albany Sciences Laboratory and Station Heaquarters in Albany, California, is a research unit of the Pacific Southwest Research Station, headquartered in Albany, California. The unit and research station are part of the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
