The Mission of the Forest Service Statistical Function
is providing high quality and timely statistical services to Forest Service research scientists
and professionals for enhancing the quality and credibility of research
and development results.
Our primary activities include:

solve their problems. |

Drawing conclusions from data in the presence of uncertainty. |

Assessment of proposed and performed statistical methods
throughout the research process. |

Consulting on quality assurance

A process to produce research data and results with known
precision, completeness, representativeness, comparability, and, where
appropriate, accuracy. |

Participating on research teams and developing solutions
to statistical problems integral to the research. |

Providing high quality, corporate statistical computing
tools and associated technical support. |
Forest Service Research and Development engages in a very
broad portfolio of complex programs to serve the many different information
and technology needs of our clientele, which requires a statistical function
of commensurate breadth and complexity.
