Tahoe Basin Research Themes: Round 7

Theme Subtheme
Air Quality Dust and air-borne sediment control demonstration projects
Forest Management Activities: Implications for Ecosystem and Public Health Effects of primary current forest management practices, with emphasis on fuel treatments (e.g. control burns, mechanical thinning, biomass removal, etc.) on forest health, wildlife, water quality and quantity and public health at the site and basin scales
Water Quality Improve understanding of stream channel erosion and historical changes in stream channel morphology; customize stream channel models for use by resource managers with an eye on developing approaches for restoration sediment loading reduction
Water Quality More detailed understanding of the specific sources, transport, and treatability of fine sediments from watershed sources
BMPs Evaluate the impacts of highway deicing and other road management practices  – contribution of fine sediment and nutrient loading to Lake Tahoe
BMPs Design a conceptual monitoring program to assess BMP effectiveness in meeting regulatory requirements for pollutant reduction
Water Quality Nearshore water quality: measurement of conditions and trends, evaluation of data for establishing numeric water quality standards, and understanding process that influence nearshore water quality and its linkage to open-lake water quality. The effect of invasive species on Lake Tahoe’s nearshore ecosystem.
Managing the Basin’s Ecological Communities Improve understanding of the status, requirements, and sensitivities of ecological communities and species of special interest to inform their management and conservation
Cross-Cutting Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis of Existing Data
Cross-Cutting Evaluation of Basin Monitoring and Networks
