USPTO UPDATES ITS AWARD-WINNING KIDS' PAGES

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently released intriguing new material on its Kids' Pages including new theme pages, a new calendar of patent and trademark trivia and a listing of recent contest winners.

The primary purpose of the Kids' Pages is to stimulate children's interest in innovation and intellectual property protection and its role in our national history and economy. USPTO believes that children can learn and have a little fun too. The three target audiences for these web pages are children in kindergarten through 6th grade; children in 6th grade through 12th grade; and parents, teachers and coaches.

"PTO's goal with the Kids' Pages is to reach out to our future and provide children with the tools they need, sparking growth in intellectual property for years to come," said Q. Todd Dickinson, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

New theme pages include "Take a Ride on the Wild Side," highlighting patents devoted to bicycles built for two, "Hail to the Chief," celebrating presidential trademarks, and "Eyes 4 U,", humorous trademarks about vision.

Also new on the site are way cool pictures, stories, ideas, poems and a museum exhibit from contest winners. You can reach the Kids' Pages at : http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/ahrpa/opa/kids/index.html

USPTO, a user fee-funded agency of the United States, within the Department of Commerce, administers laws relevant to granting patents and registering trademarks. The Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office advises the Secretary of Commerce and other Federal departments and agencies on intellectual property policy matters. Over 6 million patents have been issued since the first patent in 1790. Last year USPTO issued 161,000 patents and registered 104,000 trademarks.
