U.S. UNDER SECRETARY OF COMMERCE FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY TO REMIND KIDS THAT ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING AND COPYING OF MUSIC IS A CRIME
Government Official to Deliver Commencement at Legacy Elementary School in American Fork

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property Jon Dudas will deliver the commencement address before the sixth-grade class at Legacy Elementary School on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in American Fork, Utah at 9:15 a.m. In his remarks, Under Secretary Dudas will remind students that downloading and copying music, movies and video games without the permission of the artists’ or copyright holders’ permission is an illegal activity. Dudas will also talk to the children about the importance of intellectual property and describe the value of patents, copyrights and trademarks in our economy.

Mr. Dudas is the lead policy advisor to the Secretary of Commerce, the President of the United States and Bush Administration agencies on intellectual property matters. As Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he is responsible for administering the laws relevant to granting patents and trademarks, and the day-to-day management of the agency’s $1.5 billion budget and 7,000 employees.
