Forest Service Geology Program Policy

The Forest Service geology program has a key role in helping the agency to effectively achieve its mission of "Caring for the Land and Serving People." This role is to provide a basic scientific understanding of the earth--the "Land"--in particular the materials of which it is made and the processes which have occurred and are in action today; information that is needed for ecologically based planning and for implementing a wide range of Forest Service land and resource management activities.
