The National Forests in Mississippi uses an ecological
integrity evaluation model (EIE) as a planning tool to evaluate the
sustainability of ecological systems and their associated biodiversity, to develop
Forest Plan language, and to monitor success of conservation actions, writes Tony

Improving conditions and ecosystem services in the Lower
Mississippi Alluvial Valley (LMAV), perhaps the most ecologically degraded
region in the United States, is the focus of a cooperative conservation project that is
being coordinated by Elizabeth Estill, Deputy Chief of the USDA Forest
Service. Estill has been encouraged by
“so many different organizations and so many individuals who are committed to
making a difference.” She is
facilitating plans for a number of workshops, conferences, and meetings that,
among other things, will produce a framework for restoring the LMAV. More . . .
