Newsroom: Current YearPUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER FRANK MOSBACHER Phone: (530) 621-5268 News Releases (pdf)Forest Service Lifts Seasonal Closure of Designated Dirt Roads and Trails April 16 Designated dirt roads and trails in the Eldorado National Forest will reopen to motorized use on April 16, ending the wet weather seasonal closure that began on January 1, announced Acting Forest Supervisor Jeffrey Vail. The Forest Service closed these routes to protect water quality, prevent erosion, and reduce damage to roads and trails. (04/09) Eldorado National Forest Dirt Roads and Trails to Remain Closed Until At Least April 15 The Forest Service is extending the current closure of Eldorado National Forest dirt roads and trails until April 15 since many of the routes are too muddy for vehicles to drive on. Two weeks prior to that date, the Forest Service says it will reassess the conditions and the weather forecasts to determine if lifting the closure is still reasonable. (03/09) Public Invited to Eldorado National Forest District Ranger’s “Motorized Roads and Trails” Open Houses Its been almost a year since the Forest Service designated routes where people can drive motorized vehicles in the Eldorado National Forest. In April, the four Eldorado National Forest District Rangers will each host a day when people can drop-in at their offices to talk about the designated travel system. The open houses will be hosted at the Georgetown and Amador Ranger Stations on April 18 and at the Placerville Ranger Station on April 25. (03/09) Members Needed for El Dorado and Amador County Resource Advisory Committees The US Forest Service is seeking nominees for two 15-member Resource Advisory Committees (RAC) that will evaluate and recommend projects and funding to improve Eldorado National Forest watersheds and facilities. One RAC will recommend projects in El Dorado County and the other will recommend projects in Amador County. The advisory committees will be appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture and will represent a wide variety of interests. Applications for the RAC can be obtained on the Eldorado National Forest website at: www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado and need to be submitted by April 20, 2009. (03/09) Forest Service Contributes To National Economic Recovery U.S. Forest Service Chief Abigail Kimbell announced today the Agency’s plan to participate in the nation’s economic recovery program. The Forest Service has received $1.15 billion from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. (03/09) Woodcutting Season In The Eldorado National Forest Ends December 31 Eldorado National Forest 2008 woodcutting permits will expire December 31.
