About Us

History

In 1897, President Grover Cleveland created the Uintah Forest Reserve, the predecessor to the Uinta, Wasatch-Cache, and Ashley National Forests. The history of the Uinta National Forest is made up of a fascinating mix of people, landscapes, and resources.

History of the Uinta National Forest: A Century of Stewardship

This document was published in 1997 to commemorate the Uinta's Centennial Celebration. Read about early Paleo-Indians, European and American settlers, Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) projects on the Forest, the annual Timp Hike, construction of Strawberry Reservoir, and more.
