Projects & Plans

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is involved in many different projects and planning efforts to ensure responsible management of the Forest. Projects are designed to move toward the desired conditions described in our 2003 Revised Forest Plan. Projects and activities designed for implementation under the revised Forest Plan will be subject to environmental analysis to assure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Examples of site-specific projects include reconstructing developed recreation campgrounds, prescribed burning in the wildland-urban interface, harvesting timber to improve habitat for wildlife, and issuance of special use permits.

Forest Planning

These pages contain information regarding the 2003 Land and Resource Management Plan (also referred to as the Forest Plan) and the process used to revise it. The Forest Plan guides all management activities on the Forest.

Get Involved

Public Scrutiny, accurate scientific analysis, expert agency comments are essential to implementing NEPA. NEPA requires that environmental information be available to public officials and citizens before decisions are made and before actions are taken. Information provided to the public must be of high quality. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest welcomes public input and involvement.

Secure Rural Schools

On October 3, 2008, H.R. 1424 became Public Law (P.L.) 110-343.  Section 601 in Division C of H.R. 1424 reauthorized and amended the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 as originally enacted in P.L. 106-393. More than $500 million for FY 2008 will be available to 41 states and Puerto Rico for improvements to public schools, road maintenance and stewardship projects under this act. More information on this act.

Oil & Gas Leasing

In order to be responsive to requests for oil and gas leasing and to comply with the Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Reform Act the Uinta portion of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest has been working on an Environmental Impact Statement. This statement will analyze potential impacts that may occur as a result of leasing federal lands for the exploration, development and production of oil and gas. The Draft Environment Impact Statement was released in February 2008. More.
