The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Embassy of the United States of America (U.S.) today signed a co-financing agreement for the customs modernization and infrastructure development project.

Tajik veterinarians gathered in Dushanbe today to discuss ways to introduce innovations in veterinary clinics and fieldwork. The press briefing and discussion were organized in honor of the return of Community Connections participants from three-week internships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sughd Free Economic Zone

USAID BOOSTS CAPACITY OF THE SUGHD FREE ECONOMIC ZONE
USAID presented office equipment and furniture worth 23,000 USD to the Sughd Free Economic Zone in northern Tajikistan. This gift was made through the USAID Regional Customs and Trade Liberalization Project (RCTL), which is working to make it easier for businesses in Tajikistan to import and export goods.

USAID EXPANDS PROGRAM TO IMPROVE MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH TO HISSOR
Striving to improve family and community health, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its partner, Mercy Corps, launched a Maternal and Child Health Program (MCH) in Hissor.

CENTRAL AND SOUTH ASIAN STATES PROMOTE REGIONAL COOPERATION
The Ministry of Defense of Tajikistan held a Media Day on August 5 to demonstrate the success of an ongoing Regional Cooperation 2009 exercise, which is taking place July 31 – August 9 in Dushanbe. The exercise is part of the U.S. Central Command effort to promote regional cooperation.
