Journal Entry   Back AESO Educates the Arizona's Citizens on Native Wildlife and Wildlife Career Opportunities Southwest Region, December 31, 2008 Print Friendly Version It is becoming evermore apparent that the American people need to be reconnected with nature.  Highlighting the importance of education in this mission, Baba Dioum once said,  "In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, we will understand only what we are taught."  AESO Biologist, Jeff Servoss, conducted 40 educational presentations throughout the 2008 calendar year to benefit Arizona citizens with varying cultural and racial ethnicities and socio-economic statures.  Live, native reptiles maintained in educational display units were used to launch discussion into such topics as natural history, habitat, animal behavior, ecology, human safety, wildlife/habitat conservation, and used as a vehicle to spark an interest in wildlife and introduce young people to career opportunities with the USFWS.  These presentations and displays occured in several venues including K-12 schools, private resorts, the public library system, and even at Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Arizona!  Approximately 2,955  citizens of Arizona attended these presentations throughout 2008.   Jeff has been conducting these presentations since 1998 and has educated approximately 57,000 people with 386 presentations.   Contact Info: Nick Carrillo, (602) 242-0210x203, nick_carrillo@fws.gov Send to: From: Notes: ..........................................................................................
