Natural Resource Class from Boyne City Schools Visits Jordan River NFH
Midwest Region, October 30, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Mr. Don Lochman has been bringing his natural resource classes to Jordan River National Fish Hatchery (NFH) for several years.  When talking to Mr. Lochman it is clear that he sees great value in the diversity of information and hands on programs that the students encounter here at Jordan River NFH.  This year 20 students toured the facility and were lectured on fish biology, native species restoration, aquatic invasive species, water quality issues and the state of the upper Great Lakes.  His students are always prepared and very attentive. We have seen and heard of the successes of the students.  Many of his students have gone on to colleges and universities enrolled in environmental and natural resource programs. Several of his former students work for natural resource agencies, in particular the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Service's Sea Lamprey Control office.  As the outreach and education programs have developed and grown at Jordan River NFH the word has spread about our mission.  We receive requests for specialized tours and programs for students from preschool to college.  Our public users certainly will continue to receive these important experiences here at Jordan River NFH.
