Texas Native Plant Conservation Alliance Meets
Southwest Region, September 17, 2008
Print Friendly Version
The fifth meeting of the Texas Native Plant Conservation Alliance (TNPCA) was held September 17, 2008, at the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi campus.  The meeting was concurrent with the eighth annual Texas Plant Conservaiton Conference (TPCC).  The 21 participants represented South Texas College, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, North American Butterfly Association, Lady Bird Johnson Wildlife Center, Texas A&M Kingsville, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Texas Department of Transportation, Lower Colorado River Authority, The Nature Conservancy, and the Service.  The participants unanimously concurred that the annual TPCC events should become the annual conferences of the TNPCA (these two efforts will merge).   Regional focus groups have now been established and have met one or more times in South Texas, East Texas and the Trans-Pecos regions.  A Central Texas/Edwards Plateau will be organized in November by TNC participants.  Several Species Fact sheets were reviewed; these have been submitted to NRCS for inclusion in the USDA PLANTS web-based database.  The group agreed to continue meeting largely through the regional focus groups, with one annual state-wide meeting concurrent with the annual TPCC event.
