Trespass Violaton on Iroquois NWR (Doug Domedion)

On May 18th, 2008, Iroquois NWR volunteer Doug Domedion observed two individuals fishing in a closed area of the refuge.  He photographed from a distance the incident, which included two individuals, their vehicle, as well as the "no vehicles" sign. The photos were burned to a CD and turned over to Zone Officer Nicely for issuing a Notice of Violation. The high quality photographs allowed Officer Nicely to identify the individuals as well as get a  clear view of the vehicle's license plate number. Zone Officer Nicely ran a background on the vehicle and was able to identify the driver. A Notice of Violation was issued for trespassing in a closed area.

On July 8, 2008 Refuge Manager Roster was notified by Zone Officer Nicely that the driver paid the forfeiture of collateral without contest, a total of $185.00. It should be noted that if it were not for the vigilant efforts of volunteer Domedion as well as his excellent photography skills, this violation would have gone unnoticed.  It's through his efforts as a good witness and others like him that our National Wildlife Refuges delicate resources can be protected.
