A National Public Lands Day event was held at Sherburne NWR for the first time on September 29. 

Thirteen volunteers and two staff members participated in this nationwide effort to improve and enhance public lands.

The work day consisted of removing approximately 1,500 small common buckthorn plants by hand or weed wrench. 

The control of this non-native invasive species will improve the natural habitat of the refuge for wildlife and native plants.
