Necedah NWR Assists Northcentral Wisconsin Farmers
Midwest Region, October 25, 2007
Print Friendly Version

Necedah NWR partnered with Pri-Ru-Ta RC&D to assist Northcentral Wisconsin farmers that are switching from a conventional row crop with feedlot livestock system to permanent grass with managed rotational grazing.

Necedah NWR loaned the farmers a Truax prairie seed drill and Pri-Ru-Ta RC&D provided on-site guidance for operating it.  Twelve farmers borrowed the drill and converted 289 acres of cropland to permanent grass pasture.

This project assists Northcentral Wisconsin farmers with maintaining viable farms, reduces soil erosion on the planted acres, and creates grassland songbird habitat.
