In early September, a volunteer from Jordan River NFH, Hannah Edwards, gained some valuable experience assisting the sea lamprey control survey crew.

The crew was out on the Jordan River determining larval sea lamprey densities and locations.  Back again, in mid September the Sea Lamprey Control program staff was out in full force. This time they were here, right in our backyard. Ludington station staff performed a chemical treatment of the Jordan River the week of September 10th.

Hatchery staff cooperated with sea lamprey control field staff providing access to our discharge manhole (a chemical introduction point) and by supplying a vacant residence that was used as a field laboratory.

Thousands of  parasitic phase lampreys were prevented from entering the Great Lakes by eliminating the larval stage of the life cycle in the Jordan River.   Treating this watershed is a major under taking.

The Lake trout rehabilitation program surely appreciates the efforts of the Sea Lamprey Control staff from the USFWS Ludington Biological Station..
