Innovative techniques to be used for winged mapleleaf propagation
Midwest Region, July 1, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The Twin Cities ES Field Office, in coordination with the Columbia, MO Field Office, was successful in securing Preventing Extinction funds to use new techniques for rearing winged mapleleaf juveniles in situ

Dr. Chris Barnhart of Missouri State University has developed mussel silos and bunkers that take advantage of streamflow on site to provide fresh water and nourishment to juvenile mussels.  These techniques will be used on endangered species, including the winged mapleleaf, beginning summer 2008.
