A Family Fun Day was held at Rice Lake NWR, June 8, offering several fun and entertaining venues for the whole family. 

It was also the kick-off event for the Big Sandy Water Institute which is in it's sixth season of promoting the preservation of natural resources through recreational and environmental activities to local youths.  Family Fun Day activities consisted of: 

Birding 101 - 27 participants

Introduction to Digital Nature photography - 21 participants

Take a Kid Fishing - 30 participants

Bird House Building - 28 participants

Picnic Lunch - 95 participants

University of MN raptor presentation, Raptors of Minnesota - 72 participants

University of MN raptor presentation, Myths and Legends of Raptors - 39 participants

This was the first time that this event was offered.  Due to it's success plans are underway to make it an annual event.
