Laredo Border Patrol Sector
Southwest Region, February 8, 2007
Print Friendly Version

On February 8, 2007, a meeting was held at the Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office with U.S. Border Patrol, and Corps of Engineers to discuss the proposed Border Fence along the Rio Grande in the Laredo Border Patrol Sector.  The double fence is proposed along the Rio Grande from 15 miles Northwest of Laredo and East to Zapata County Line and is approximately 110 miles long.  This fence would be 15 feet high with metal panels (design of fence has not yet been determined) and would have a 30-foot road between the two fences.  The fence could be located anywhere from near the Rio Grande to several miles away from the river depending on topography.  There was discussion that the Corps of Engineers would need to write an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), assess impacts on habitat, and conduct endangered species surveys for a Biological Assessment.
