Section 6 Awards Received in Central Texas

Three Section 6 Grant Awards were received by applicants in Central Texas on September 22, 2006. 

The City of San Antonio and The Nature Conservancy received a Section 6 HCP Land Acquisition grant of $3.5 million for Cibolo Canyonlands for habitat protection of golden-cheeked warbler in Comal County, Texas. 

Comal County, Texas, received a Section 6 HCP Planning Assistance grant of $612,852 to assist with the development of a Comal County Regional HCP for conservation of the golden-cheeked warbler, black-capped vireo, and seven aquatic species related to the Edwards Aquifer.

The City of San Marcos, in partnership with Hays County, Texas State University - San Marcos, and The Nature Conservancy, received a $1 million Recovery Land Acquisition grant to acquire 250 acres to protect water quality for the  San Marcos and Texas blind salamanders, Texas wild-rice, fountain darter, and Comal Springs riffle beetle, and to preserve habitat for the golden-cheeked warbler.
