Necedah NWR West Boundary Wetland Restorations
Midwest Region, September 25, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Necedah NWR partnered with Ducks Unlimited, Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, The Friends of Necedah NWR, and Necedah NWR volunteers Roger Bean and Larry Southworth to restore 42 acres of drained wetland at Necedah NWR.

In August, staff plugged two drainage ditches at five locations to restore two sedge meadow complexes' pre-drainage hydrology.  Necedah NWR contributed the use of an excavator and dozer; Ducks Unlimites, Wisconson Waterfowl Association, and Friends of Necedah NWR contributed funding for fuel; and Roger Bean and Larry Southworth, both recently retired professional heavy equipment operators, donated 100 hours of work time towards this project.

These wetland restorations restore habitat for the federally endangered whooping crane, other wading birds, and waterfowl.
