Flyfishing with Boston Big and Little Brothers at Monomoy NWR
Northeast Region, June 17, 2006
Print Friendly Version
The annual Father's Day event took place at Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge on June 17, 2006 at the Morris Island Visitor Center.  Refuge Manager Michael Brady greeted 21 pairs of Big and Little Brothers, all from Boston.  The day was filled with many new adventures, as most of the Little Brothers had never been to the ocean.  Intern Jennifer Khoury took the children for a nature walk along the Morris Island Trail and stopped to tag horseshoe crabs along the waters edge.  The group then joined volunteers from the Flyfishing Forum and the 21 instructors assisted the children on the finer points of fishing for Striped Bass.  A local ferry service, Rip Ryder, volunteered free shuttle rides for all participants.  The day ended with an awards ceremony at the refuge visitor center where each participant received a specialized baseball hat, marking the occasion.
