Journal Entry   Back Lesser Prairie-Chicken/Sand Dune Lizard Implementation Team Meeting, May 11, 2006 Southwest Region, May 11, 2006 Print Friendly Version   The Conservation Partnerships Branch Chief of the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office attended the initial meeting of the lesser prairie-chicken and sand dune lizard (LPC/SDL) implementation team meeting in Roswell, New Mexico on May 11, 2006.  Both species are candidate species for listing under the Endangered Species Act.  There were 25 attendees representing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Natural Resources Conservation Service, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, Mack Energy, Harvard Petroleum, Marbob Energy, The Nature Conservancy, New Mexico Department of Agriculture, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, and private ranchers.  This working group will implement the recommendations from the New Mexico LPC/SDL Working Group who developed and produced the Collaborative Conservation Strategies for the Lesser Prairie-Chicken and Sand Dune Lizard in New Mexico (Strategy).  The co-leads of the group will be NM Department of Game and Fish and Marbob Energy.  Federal agency participants will be advisors, not leaders.  Meetings will be held quarterly.  Beyond the form and function of the group, discussion items included:  the Strategy, status of the BLM Resource Management Plan Amendment, status of Forest Guardians' lawsuit, update of LPC spring lek surveys, USDA Conservation Reserve Program enrolled lands and LPCs, development of a letterhead for the group, possibly having the working group be chartered in NM, issues developing with the 2007 Farm Bill, how to document successes of the working group, status of the Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances for southeastern NM, and status of reclamation work on BLM lands.
