Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge Updates Visitor Center
Pacific Region, August 12, 2004
Print Friendly Version
To protect wildlife mounts and increase their visibility, four display cases were purchased and installed in the Visitor Center auditorium. Many of the mounts displayed in the new cases were donated by a local high school teacher after he retired. Several bird and mammal mounts have been added to the refuge collection after being prepared by local taxidermists. These mounts are used in environmental education and interpretive programs to teach kids and adults about wildlife and wildlife ecology.

Visitor Center improvements planned for next year include the addition of several more wildlife mounts, and expansion of the Kidspace activity area that will provide room for several new hands-on kids activities.

As refuge visitation continues to increase and our environmental education program expands, these improvements are a welcome addition.
