Group Fact Sheet

In FY 06, groups of 10 or more passengers traveling together on the same day, on the same flight, for the same mission requiring group integrity, and identified upon booking as a "group" by the travel management system, are non-mandatory users of the contract fares. Groups may choose the carrier that best meets their travel needs. Groups of 10 or more passengers will be booked through the carrier’s group booking procedures and follow that carrier's commercial group reservation, ticketing, and cancellation policies.

Current policy states Department of Defense (DoD) organizations shall not make duplicate military and commercial air transportation reservations to move DoD group travelers (defined for this purpose as 10 or more seats). Specifically, commercial air transportation will not be requested or scheduled for DoD group travel unless all actions to obtain military air transportation have been terminated (DoD 4500.9-R, Part 1, Chapter 102, Para B). Once commercial air transportation is secured, significant economic penalties will be assessed if reservations are cancelled to accept organic airlift.
