Recreational Rental FacilitiesReservations for recreational rental facilities on the Malheur National Forest must be made through Reserve America Reservation System http://www.recreation.gov or 877-444-6777 (toll free).
NO WINTER RECREATIONAL RENTAL FACILITIES AVAILABLE Availability: These facilities are available for recreational use from approximately mid-May through late October, weather permitting, and only when access by passenger vehicle can be safely achieved. Rental Fee: $40/night Maximum stay: 14 nights

Considerations | There is no electricity or water |
Access | From John Day travel south on Highway 395 approximately 17 miles to County Road 63 (Izee Highway). Travel County Road 63 to the junction of Forest Service Road 24, and continue on Forest Service Road 24 for approximately 10 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 514 and travel about 1/4 mile staying to your right until you reach the locked gate that allows entry to the facility grounds. |
Attractions | In the spring and summer enjoy wildflowers, wild horses, wildlife viewing and splendid peace and quiet. |
Accomodations | This cabin contains one set of twin bunk beds, one futon and one couch to sleep four comfortably. The facility has wood heat and is equipped with a propane cook stove, propane refrigerator, and propane lights. There is NO water, NO electricity and NO indoor restroom. An outdoor vault toilet is located in close proximity to the house. |

Considerations | The winter shutters have been removed giving a full 360 degree view of the surrounding valleys and the south side of the Strawberry Mountains. Looking to the north you can see the town of Mt. Vernon and looking to the south you can see the town of Seneca |
Access | From John Day travel approximately 10 miles south on Highway 395 to Forest Service Road 3920. Follow Forest Service Road 3920 to the junction with Forest Service Road 4920, turn right travel less then 1/4 mile then turn right onto Forest Service Road 4920607. Follow Forest Service Road 4920607 about one mile to the lookout |
Attractions | Great sunsets and sunrises. On clear nights spectacular view of the stars, and should one be lucky enough you may even have the opportunity to experience a phenomenal light show provided by a summer thunder/lightning storm |
Accommodations | This facility is a 14 x 14 foot cabin atop a 25-foot tower. The facility is currently the only electric recreational rental available, with an electric cook stove, electric refrigerator, electric heater and electric lights. There is a futon for a bed that sleeps two comfortably. There is NO water and NO indoor restroom. A vault toilet is located in close proximity of the lookout |

Access | There are two ways to access this facility |
1) From John Day travel south on Highway 395 approximately 17 miles to County Road 63 (Izee Highway). Travel County Road 63 to the junction of Forest Service Road 21 take a right onto Forest Service Road 21 and travel approximately 11.5 miles to the work center. | |
2) Another access is from John Day travel west on Highway 26 approximately 18 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road 21 and travel approximately 14 miles to the work center. | |
Attractions | In the spring and summer enjoy a short hike around the Cedar Grove Botanical Area, wildflowers, wildlife and fishing in nearby Murderer's Creek |
Accommodations | This facility consists of two cabins. The main cabin or cookhouse is equipped with wood heat, propane cook stove and propane refrigerator. The other cabin or bunkhouse, has propane heaters and four twin beds |
