Who is RMRC?

RMRC is a private recreation management company that is operating this and other facilities on National Forest Lands.

This is possible through a permit issued by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The US Forest Service (USFS) has contracted with RMRC to operate the majority of campgrounds and day use areas throughout the Pike National Forest.

RMRC is responsible for all maintenance, fee collection, interpretive programs, and general facility maintenance.  RMRC has partnered with the USFS to ensure that visitors enjoy their experience on the forest with safe access to clean facilities.

In keeping with a strong tradition of USFS management of public lands, RMRC seeks to extend and enhance all of the opportunities unique to campgrounds and day use areas of the Pike National Forest.

Without concessionaires like RMRC, many USFS facilities would be closed to public use.

What is the USFS Concessionaire Program?

The need for concessionaires, particularly on USFS lands, emerged in the 1980's as land management agencies realized less and less funding for personnel and facilities.

In 1956, two senators by the names of Granger and Thye introduced and passed legislation permitting the private management of public facilities.

While very few public land management agencies initially embraced this option, the alternative paved the way for concessionaires like RMRC to manage facilities on Public Lands.

How do you benefit from RMRC?

Your trip into the Pike's Peak, South Platte, Leadville, Salida and San Carlos Ranger Districts of the Pike National Forest will take you through many USFS facilities managed by RMRC.

RMRC provides several services that the USFS is no longer able to provide due to its limited funding.  These include hosted campgrounds, facility maintenance, interpretive programs and improved communications for remote areas to ensure the public's safety.

Local law enforcement and emergency medical services are more accessible in remote emergencies because of RMRC.

What does RMRC Maintain at USFS Facilities?

  • Bathrooms

  • Campgrounds, day use areas and trailheads

  • Water systems (water quality testing and repair)

  • Trash removal

  • Exotic weed removal

  • Mowing

  • Roads

  • Signage

How is RMRC Improving USFS Facilities?

A portion of fees collected by RMRC assures safe access to improved facilities.  Some of the projects include:

  • Renovation of campsites (electric, sewer and other amenities)

  • Installation of new bathrooms

  • New water systems

  • New picnic tables

  • New fire rings and BBQ's

  • New tent pads

  • Improved access to phones in remote sites

RMRC Interpretive Programs

RMRC conducts a number of campground interpretive programs throughout the summer months.
