Upcoming Prescribed Fire Activity
Hand Piles
Forest Service Fuels Management Crews anticipate conducting prescribed fire operations in the Rubicon, Ward and/or
Blackwood areas (west shore). An additional location may be in the Emerald Bay area.
Size, duration and exact locations will be determined when weather conditions develop and appropriate fuel moisture is
present.
Landscape Underburns Planned Soon
Pending favorable conditions, crews plan to begin ignitions on a 30 to 40 acre area near Tahoe City, adjacent to Burton
Creek Sate Park. This 115 acre project area will be accomplished in 30 to 40 acre sections over time.
These slow, low intensity burns will take place in areas already treated to reduce fuel loading and over-density.
Residents and travelers can expect to see smoke from prescribed fire project areas.
This and other prescribed fire projects are designed to reduce wildfire risks to communities and critical resources.
Smoke management is part of every prescribed fire burn plan, and efforts will be taken to reduce actual or potential smoke
impacts on community areas.
