Learn to Swim Program at Saf-T-Swim

Many children have enjoyed six week one-to-one sessions at Saf-T-Swim in Commack, Bayshore, Bohemia, East Meadow and Westbury locations. The NSASA funds half of the cost for this program for local NSASA members' autistic children. This program is designed to help toddlers "get their toes wet" and START teaching them about pool safety. Autistic individuals of any age should never, ever, be left unattended in any pool, beach, lake or areas near bodies of water.

If you are interested in future swim programs or have any questions please email
Chris Petrosino at nypaac@yahoo.com Please put "Swim Program" in the subject line. Thank you

Rooted in Hope

The workers at GROW assisted in the planting,
filling in the hole for the weeping cherry

On the grounds of West Sayville Golf Course, the Suffolk County Department of Parks leases a greenhouse facility to Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI). DDI uses that facility, known as the GROW greenhouse, to teach and train autistic children and adults in this important regional industry. NSASA honored these special individuals at the greenhouse where they learn and work by sponsoring a tree planting. They also sell the fruits of their labor. Perhaps you will take a trip down to the greenhouse and buy a few plants that they grow from seed...the proceeds will benefit and promote the work of this wonderful greenhouse. Thank you for your support! Directions? Sunrise Highway (East) to Exit 46 - Montauk Highway (CR 85) East. Golf course and Green house is approximately three miles East on South side of Montauk Highway.

Jill Bullwinkle has graciously volunteered to help us run programs and also makes a contribution to NSASA when someone mentions "NSASA" when purchasing her unique silver jewelry. The Ray of Hope Autism autism awareness jewelry features silver and swarovski crystals. Please click on Jill's banner below to visit her site and order jewelry...and don't forget to mention "NSASA!"

The mission of the Autism Society of America is to provide lifelong access and opportunity for all individuals within the autism spectrum, and their families, to be fully participating, included members of their community. Education, advocacy at state and federal levels, active public awareness and the promotion of research form the cornerstones of ASA's efforts to carry forth its mission. We are a volunteer organization of parents who have children and adults with autism spectrum disorders. Though not a service provider, our yearly golf outing and other fund raisers provide us with monies that enable us to assist families with support groups as well as social, recreational and educational opportunities. All of the funds we raise go right into our community based programs.
