Abstract	The hydrocarbon deposits discovered off the West of Shetland provides a new offshore province for the oil and gas industry. However, likely deep water concepts for use in the development of this area are complicated by the complex topography, wave, wind and current behaviour. This paper presents an overview of current activities West of Shetland and summarises the status of the possible systems that will be used for field development. In addition, an assessment and comparison of the CAPEX for the different development options is presented. This is complemented by an approximate net present value investment appraisal for an assumed production profile.
