Abstract |
For some 20 years, from the energy crisis onward, there has been a tendency in official circles to extol the prioritization of public transit in towns and cities, although this does not necessarily mean that words are translated into action. The author seeks answers to the following questions: 1) What justification is there for public transit prioritization?; Did this justification suddenly appear in the 1970s or had it simply been overshadowed earlier?; Does not public transit prioritization, even where justified, have its limitations?; and, How can prioritization be introduced or how can users be guided in their choice of transit mode? |
