Library Celebrates 10 Years of 'Promises Made, Promises Kept'
January 2009 marks the 10th year of transformation for Solano County's libraries and the eighth of a penny sales tax that made it all possible. With the motto, "Promises Made, Promises Kept," the Library commemorates the 1998 sales tax vote and the ways the Library has delivered on the promises made a decade ago. According to Ann Cousineau, Director of Library Services, “Those of us who use and work in our libraries are grateful every day to the voters of Solano County and the value they place in their public library.”

County reconfigures mental health services

Solano County Mental Health officials announced today a strategy to reconfigure the way it offers crisis services to the community. Starting Feb. 15, the County will combine the functions of the Mental Health Outpatient Clinics and Crisis Clinics in Vallejo and Fairfield. In addition, the County will expand the use of its Mobile Crisis Team for afterhours care. The availability of crisis services, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, will remain in place, including the 24-hour Crisis Line (428-1131) and Mental Health Access Line (800-547-0495).

Presentation of County budget wins distinguished award

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has selected Solano County to receive its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award is for the Fiscal Year 2008/09 budget document, and represents a significant achievement for a government organization.  To receive the award, the County had to publish a document that met rigorous criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide for the organization, as a financial plan and as a device to communicate to the public.

Nominations sought for Youth Service Awards

The Solano County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission is seeking nominations for the 15th annual Youth Services Awards. The award recognizes people who have substantially contributed to delinquency prevention and youth in Solano County.  Awards are presented in five categories: correction and probation, law enforcement, education, ministry and the community at large.
