All calendar events take place at the Fremont County Administration Building unless otherwise noted. All events are open to the public. We encourage you to attend!

 

 

Fire Ban Status

The Board of Commissioners have temporarily suspended the fire ban in unincorporated areas of Fremont County on April 14, 2009.

The status for the need of a fire ban will be assessed weekly based on weather conditions and the risk of wildfires.

Tourism Council

Fremont County took its name from famed western explorer Captain John C. Fremont, "The Pathfinder," who, along with his scout Kit Carson, mapped the territory in 1843. Fremont County is nestled along the Arkansas River valley in south central Colorado at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Fremont County encompasses an area of 1,533 square miles and has a population of 47,426. Mild weather and beautiful landscapes make Fremont County a tourist attraction in all seasons. Towns such as Cañon City, Florence, Penrose and Cotopaxi reside within the County.

Memorial Dedication and Flag Burning Ceremony

A Memorial dedication is scheduled for May 16, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at our Fremont County War Memorial Park. The ceremony is to honor our Fremont County Veterans and to unveil the newest additions of our commemorative brick engravings. Approximatley 150 engraving orders were taken from May 2008 through January 2009.

Following the celebration, the American Legion will hold a Flag Burning Ceremony to retire unusable and tattered flags.

Colorado State Forest ServiceSEEDLING TREES ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE COLORADO STATE FOREST SERVICE

More than 40 varieties of deciduous and evergreen seedling trees and shrubs are available to farmers, ranchers and rural landowners with 2 or more acres. Seedling trees and shrubs from the Colorado State Forest Service may be purchased at
low cost, and are recommended plantings for windbreaks, shelter belts, erosion control, reforestation, and wildlife habitat. Small and Large Potted seedling trees are sold in boxes of 30. Bare Root seedlings are sold in bundles of 50. Property owners are advised to plan before they plant, and staff at the Canon City district office of the Colorado State Forest Service are available to assist with decisions about seedling trees prior to purchase. Tree order forms are available at the Canon City district office. Call (719) 275-6865 or stop by the office during regular business hours to pick up an order form, Tree Buyer’s Guide, and Planning and Planting Guide.

The Canon City district office of the Colorado State Forest Service is located at 515 McDaniel Blvd. Order forms are also available at Post Offices in Fremont and Custer counties
