TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT: Most temporary appointments with this forest are limited to 1039 hours in a service year and work from mid-April to mid-October. Some temporary positions can work up to two years. Work schedules include full time, part time and intermittent. Benefits include annual and sick leave if your appointment is to last more than 90 days. Some positions such as Forestry Aids/Technicians, Range Aids/Technicians and Biological Science Aids/Technicians are open continuously. Other positions are advertised as they become available.

This summer we may fill positions in the following locations:

TERM EMPLOYMENT: TERM appointments are used for temporary work that is expected to last more than one year but less than 4 years. Work schedules include full time, part time, intermittent and seasonal. A TERM appointment has limited benefits including annual and sick leave, life insurance, health insurance, retirement, within grade increases and protection under adverse action procedures. It does not give you a competitive status to apply for other career positions under agency merit promotion procedures. These positions are advertised as they become available.

PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT: Permanent appointments are used for continuing work. Work schedules include full time, part time and seasonal. A seasonal position has a fixed number of pay periods that work is done on a full time or part time basis and the remainder of the pay periods are spent in nonpay status. A permanent appointment has benefits including annual and sick leave, life insurance, health insurance, retirement, within grade increases and protection under adverse action procedures and it gives you competitive status to apply for other career positions under agency merit promotion procedures. They positions are advertised as they become available.

HOW TO APPLY FOR EMPLOYMENT:
The Forest Service is using an automated application process to fill most positions. You may find out more about this system and temporary vacancies at www.fs.fed.us/fsjobs.

Any federal position expected to last 120 days or more is to be advertised at USAJobs.

To access the automated application system for the Forest Service you may go to www.avuedigitalservices.com.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS: There are two different types of appointments available under this program; the Student Temporary Employment Program and the Student Career Employment Program. The Student Temporary Employment Program is normally used to fill temporary needs. The Student Career Experience Program is used to recruit college degree seeking students into permanent positions to meet future workloads. To be eligible for either program you must be enrolled in school at least half time and in good standing with the school.
