Picnic Areas
Picnic areas on the San Bernardino National Forest are varied. Many are accessible to persons
with disabilities, some have drinking water on site, and some have
fishing nearby. Use picnic sites, and other day use areas only between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
During winter months some locations may be
inaccessible due to snow or closed, check with the local
Ranger Station for updated
conditions.

Baylis Park - Hwy 18 east of Lake Gregory Drive.
Baylis Park was named after Dr. John Baylis, who was instrumental in getting the
Rim of the World Highway built (Highway 18). Baylis is a popular stop for
visitors traveling up into the mountains. Strawberry Peak Fire Lookout
Tower is nearby. Open all year, 6 am to 10 pm |

Switzer Park - Hwy 18 west of Skyforest, majestic views
of the San Bernardino Valley on clear days. Open all year, 6 am to 10
pm |

Splinters Cabin - Located adjacent to Deep
Creek in the Lake Arrowhead area. Access is Forest Service road (2N26Y)
which begins at the end of Hook Creek Road in Cedar Glen. Follow Forest
Service Road 2N26Y to Forest Service Road 3N34C, and turn right, follow this
road to the picnic area. Note: the Forest Service road is a
single lane and a portion of the road is dirt, exercise caution in blind
corners. Deep Creek is a native trout fishery,
and the Pacific Crest Trail can be accessed from this site. Bicycles are
not permitted on the Pacific Crest Trail. Road is closed due to

Crest Park - Hwy 18 west of Hwy 173, Strawberry Peak Fire
Lookout Tower is nearby. This is a nice setting, with the highway junction
to Lake Arrowhead adjacent, great for mountain visitors headed for Lake
Arrowhead to stop and enjoy the view. Parking area not plowed for snow. Open all year,
6 am to 10 pm |

Aspen Glen - Located west of the Village. South of Hwy 18
on Mill Creek Road. Pineknot trail begins at the picnic area, with hiking,
mountain biking, and equestrian opportunities. Very popular during the winter.

Grout Bay - Located 1/4 mile west of Fawnskin on
Hwy 38. - Closed during eagle season; November 1st thru March 31st. Open 6 am
to 10 pm |

Juniper Point - Located on Highway 38, 1
mile west of Stanfield Cut-off. The paved Alpine Pedal Path runs through the
picnic area, and is an excellent walk or ride along the north shore of Big Bear
Lake. Open May thru September, 6 am to 10 pm |

Meadows Edge - Located on Hwy 38, 2 miles east of
Fawnskin on the north shore of Big Bear Lake. It is located adjacent to Serrano
Campground. Open mid-May thru October 31st, 6 am to 10 pm |

San Gorgonio

Falls - Hwy 38 to Valley of the Falls Drive, portions of
the site closed in Winter. Vivian Creek Trail to the San Gorgonio
Wilderness starts here, and the Momyer Trailhead is nearby. Closed with the
first snow and reopens the weekend before Memorial Day, 6 am to 10 pm |

Jenks Lake
($5 parking fee) Hwy 38 to Jenks Lake Road - Very scenic
lake with excellent fishing, and a fishing pier. Open May thru October, closed
in Winter. |

Thurman Flats - Hwy 38 east of Bryant Avenue, right hand
side of the highway, adjacent to Mill Creek, a year around stream. Open all year,
6 am to 10 pm |

San Jacinto

Fuller Mill Creek - Hwy 243, plenty of shade, nice
beautiful area
on a hot day. Note: Fuller Mill Creek closed to public access by
Forest Order to protect the mountain yellow-legged frog. Open all year, 6 am to 10 pm |

Lake Fulmor - Hwy 243, try your luck fishing this popular
fishing spot, just a short drive from the Banning Pass. Lake Fulmor also
boasts a fishing pier. Please exercise extreme caution while crossing the
highway. Open all year, 6 am to 10 pm |

Lake Hemet - Hwy 79, Lake Hemet offers plenty of shore
fishing to the angler. Campers can stay overnight at the adjacent
campground operated by the Lake
Hemet Municipal Water District. The Water District also has small
boats available for day rental. Open all year, 6 am to 10 pm |
