PALM SPRINGS MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR POSSESSING HUNDREDS OF IMAGES OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

A Palm Springs man who traded images of child pornography and who had more than 600 images and movies on his home computer was sentenced today to the statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

Kevin Phillips, 51, was sentenced today in Riverside federal court by United States District Judge Virginia A. Phillips.

Defendant Phillips pleaded guilty in September 2007 to one count of possession of child pornography. The images recovered by investigators included depictions of a young boy engaging in a sex act with a dog and babies being assaulted by adults.

During today’s sentencing hearing, Judge Phillips said that there “were very disturbing images here.”

Once Phillips is released from prison after serving at least 85 percent of his sentence, he will be on supervised release for 10 years.

The investigation into Phillips was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which received the assistance of the Palm Springs Police Department.
