Medford, Wisconsin, Master Gardner Wildflower Walk

Event Description: A spring wildflower walk will be held on May 16, 2009 on the Medford land base of the Medford-Park Falls Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National forest in Wisconsin.  This walk, sponsored by the Medford Master Gardner’s, will highlight spring ephemerals native to the area occurring along a short segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The walk will also incorporate a visit to Jerry Lake, a eutrophic lake that is slowly developing into a bog.  Event will begin Saturday at the Jerry Lake trailhead at 10 am.

Location and directions to site: From Medford, Wisconsin, head north on Highway 13 to the intersection of Taylor County Road M and turn west.  Follow County Road M west for approximately 13 miles to FR 571. Head north on FR 571 for approximately 1 mile to the Jerry Lake trailhead.

Special notes:  Terrain is moderately level; wear good walking shoes.  Bugs may be bad at this time of year; bug repellant and/or head net is suggested along with appropriate all weather jacket.  Event will be held rain or shine.
